Dinner's Ready, a drama, follows the story of a grieved housewife carrying out her daily
routine as she slowly comes to terms with the fact that her husband will never return.

Vada, a housewife to a seamen, starts her weekly routine and prepares for her
husband’s return by making their bed, cleaning every room in the house, preparing his
favourite meal, and even opening the front door since she knows he likes to smell the
food on his way in. However, she receives news from a colleague of her husband’s, Ed, that something has happened to him, Simon, at sea.
The front door suddenly closes on its own.

She doesn't believe any of this so she reopens the front door and carries on with her
routine, believing it will bring him home, but this goes on for years - she grows old doing
this.

Until one late afternoon when she’s in the kitchen she hears over the radio that it’s the
ten-year anniversary of a shipwreck and hears her husband's name amongst the victims.

She breaks down almost immediately.

However, through all this new and heavier grief, she continues her routine and finishes
preparing dinner. Vada leaves the kitchen and reluctantly closes the door on the way up to their bedroom where she falls asleep and dies shortly after.
